Free parking
The national source has 1,671 records explicitly tagged as free. Unknown does not mean free: always verify the sign and time limits.
See the sourced Stockholm example →Start with the nationwide overview, then open a city map to compare parking near your actual destination. Hittaparkering brings together a broad Swedish map layer with richer local and operator data in selected cities, including published prices, walking distance and estimated availability where those data exist.
Filter the source layer by published fee tag, garage or park-and-ride, search a location name, or select a cluster to zoom in. Open a city page for destination search, tariff comparisons, EV charging, walking distance and the deeper filter set.
The detailed city maps have one shared workflow: search your destination, set how long you plan to stay, then narrow the result. Filters only return locations whose data supports the selected feature.

See the sourced Stockholm example →The national source has 801 records explicitly tagged as paid. City datasets add more operator tariffs and payment details.
How payment works in Sweden →Use the Garage filter for indoor and multi-storey facilities. Compare the full stay cost and walking distance, not just the first hourly rate.
Compare Stockholm garages →Use the EV filter in a supported city map. A charger marker does not guarantee that a charging bay is vacant or that parking is included in the charging price.
Open a city map →Use the P+R filter for facilities explicitly identified as park-and-ride. Check the local transit and parking terms before leaving the car.
Open a city map →Swedish national rules, zone signs and local restrictions can apply even when a map shows a parking location. Check the rule hierarchy before walking away.
Read the official-source driver guide →Fee status is not published for 3,509 of the national records. Hittaparkering keeps those records unknown instead of guessing.
City pages are the practical starting point when you already know where you are going. The richer guides lead with a comparison; the map links open directly into destination search.
Detailed comparisons with destination search, prices and walking distance.
Open the map first, search an address and compare the parking closest to it.
Compare parking around Sweden’s busiest international and regional airports.
A street address or venue is more useful than the city centre: walking distance is calculated from the point you actually need to reach.
A cheap first hour can become an expensive day. Compare the published cost for your planned stay whenever tariff data are available.
Choose Garage, Free, EV or P+R when that attribute matters. A smaller, relevant result set is easier to compare than every pin on the map.
The physical sign, temporary restriction and operator terms at the location always take precedence over a map or directory.
The map shows where parking exists. The sign at the bay decides whether the stay is legal, and some restrictions apply where there is no sign at all. These guides are written for visitors and rental-car drivers.
Each guide cites the official Swedish sources it relies on and prints the date they were checked.
How payment works at the machine, and the winter rules that decide whether a car has to be moved.
The overview comes from a quarterly OpenStreetMap Overpass query for Swedish amenity=parking features that have a name, a capacity or a park-and-ride tag. Selected restricted OSM access values—including private, no, permit, staff and employees—are removed. Customer and destination access remain in the source layer and may carry restrictions, so check the terms at the place. The compact map payload contains location, name, type, published capacity, explicitly tagged fee status and P+R status. Capacity is published for 4,026 of the 5,981 records; the space total is summed over those alone, which makes it a floor for this layer and not a count of parking spaces in Sweden. The remaining 1,955 are left unknown instead of estimated.
Selected city pages combine additional municipal and operator sources. Those pages may show published prices, walking distance and estimated availability. The data vary by city and facility; a field is left unknown when the source does not support it.
A map point is not proof of a vacant space. A “free” tag may still sit beside a maximum stay, customer rule or time restriction. Temporary signs, street cleaning, winter rules and the terms at the location can override general information.
