Parking Price Index

Read the methodology

The Parking Price Index compares the median cost of parking across cities in the Nordics and Poland. Every figure is built from real, verified tariffs on the map, never estimates. Prices are shown in local currency and in euros so cities in different countries can be compared directly.

What the index measures

The Parking Price Index is a snapshot of what it costs to park in cities across the Nordics and Poland. For each city we compute the median standard hourly rate and, where the data exists, the median daily maximum charge.

Data collection

The figures come from the same verified tariffs shown on the map: real prices from municipalities, operators and open data, never estimates. A facility with an unknown or uncertain price is left out entirely rather than counted as a zero.

Why medians

The median is the middle price. Unlike an average, it is not dragged by a handful of very expensive or very cheap facilities, so it describes what an ordinary parking spot actually costs in that city.

Standard rate, not right now

We use the nominal standard hourly rate, not whichever tariff happens to be active at the moment. On-street parking is often free at night, so a rate measured at the wrong time would give a misleading median. The standard rate is independent of when the edition is compiled.

Where the tariff steps up by the hour, as in the Polish zones, we use the effective hourly cost of a two-hour stay instead of the first-hour price.

Inclusion threshold

A city enters the table only if it has at least twelve verified paid facilities. The bar is the same for every city and keeps a median from resting on a couple of spots. Cities below it are omitted rather than shown with an unreliable figure.

Currency and FX

Local prices are converted to euros using the European Central Bank reference rates, and the rate date is printed on every edition. Local currency is always shown alongside the euro figure, so nothing is hidden in the conversion.

Coverage and honesty

Price coverage varies between cities and is shown in the table: a low figure means we hold confident prices for a smaller share of that city's parking. This is a snapshot, not a survey. The first edition carries no trends; they arrive once the price history spans a full comparison period.

Cadence

The index is refreshed quarterly. Each edition is kept at its own URL so the history can be compared.
